Last December, the Zicklin School co-sponsored the National Society of Hispanic MBAs' 10th Annual Gala and Awards Night, held at the Harvard Club in New York. Though it was the first time that Baruch sponsored the event, the school has been actively involved with NSHMBA in other ways.
This past February, Zicklin's director of grad- uate admissions, Fran Murphy, gave her second annual ABCs of Applying for an MBA workshop at Baruch for NSHMBA's New York chapter. Murphy has also contributed "Top Ten MBA Tips of the Month" for The Bottom Line, the organization's monthly publication. The 15-year-old
society, which aims to "foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development in order to improve society," serves 28 chapters in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Its 6,000 members include professionals with an MBA, current MBA students, and those who plan to pursue the degree. The president of its New York Chapter, Marcela Solano ('96), who earned her BBA at Baruch and her MBA at Fordham, plans to return to Baruch this fall for an MS in marketing.
NSHMBA's annual gala in December was attended by Zicklin Dean John Elliott, Associate Dean Robert Ducoffe, Director of Graduate Student Life Ginny Goldberg, and several Baruch students and alumni. The gala journal included a letter from Dean Elliott welcoming attendees on behalf of the school. According to Elliott, Baruch's bond with NSHMBA is beneficial for everyone involved: "The Hispanic community in New York City is dynamic and growing; our undergraduate student population reflects the size and energy of this important population segment. At the graduate level, our relationship with the National Society of Hispanic MBAs helps us keep in contact with this community at the professional level. NSHMBA is a great partner for the school, our students, alumni, and recruiters." MZ
